T-ball Umpires

Are you born in 2006, 2007 and 2008 and interested in becoming a T-ball umpire and making extra money?

The Pickering Baseball Association runs an in-house program for first time umpires to officiate T-ball games.

Umpire Details:

- Umpires get paid $20/game
- T-ball games are played at Forestbrook, Amberlea Small, Valleyview, Bev Morgan and Jean McPherson fields
- T-ball games are played Tuesday and Thursday at 7pm and 6:45pm, so anyone considering becoming a T-ball umpire must be available Tuesdays and Thursdays. If you play baseball, check your schedule before registering for this clinic.

Clinic Details:

T-ball umpire training will be completed at Brockridge Field on Saturday May 9th 10:00am-1:00 pm. Participants will get an umpire shirt and hat. The cost of the training, shirt and hat is $30.00. Registration for the umpire training is required. No drop ins are allowed.

If you are interested in attending the T-ball umpire training or have any questions, contact Lori Yee at pbatballumpires@gmail.com

Space is limited, so sign up early. Last year we had a waiting list!

Chief Umpire: chiefumpire@pickeringbaseball.ca

All umpires must attend a clinic yearly to be certified by the OBA. For a list of available clinics, visit www.baseballontario.com/umpires/

PBA Umpire clinic information

Umpire Information

For parents, players and coaches, we ask that you please remember that the Umpire runs the game. Any concern you may have regarding umpiring should be dealt with following the game using our “head’s up" form. Email this to your convenor and/or the appropriate board member.

Rules of Play

Please note that there are specific rules which apply to every division. You should ensure that you are up to date on all General baseball rules and clear about any Division specific rules BEFORE you start the game. Feel free to contact your coach, convenor or a member of the executive if you would like clarification or more information.

If you have a question about a specific play please email the Umpire-in-Chief (chiefumpire@pickeringbaseball.ca) giving specific details about inning, count, outs, runners on base and the scenario in question.

Play Clarification During Game

Coaches are welcome to speak to the umpires only when the ball is dead. Coaches may ask the umpires to call time. Discussions with the umpires are for information purposes only. We request that coaches ask their parents NOT to speak to the umpires at all, that is the coach’s responsibility.

Game Time

Umpires are the official time keepers for the game. The plate umpire will announce the official time at the beginning of the game and this time will be recorded on the score sheet. Parents/coaches should synchronize their watches when the umpire announces the time.

Player Rotation

Rotation of players in house league play is mandatory. Umpires will ensure that player rotation is honoured. Coaches who do not rotate their players as outlined in the House League Rules may be ejected and/or their team may forfeit the game.

Dress Code

Dress code will be enforced. All players must wear their entire PBA uniform (as supplied). In T-ball and Blastball, players must always wear long pants for safety reasons. Umpires will not allow players wearing shorts to play. Coaches may wear shorts or long pants at their own discretion.

UMPIRE FORMS (available on our Forms / Policies page)

Heads Up Report

Please let us know if you have any concern (parents, coaching, respect for rules, etc). Umpires are the only impartial representative of the PBA on the field. Your expert opinions are very important to us. If you feel there may be cause for concern, give us a head's up. This information will be held in confidence and hopefully will prevent the need for an "Arbitration Form".

Arbitration Form

A report must be submitted to the Umpire-in-Chief within 24 hours of any game in which violations of rules occur including ejection / disqualification of any trainer, manager, coach or player.

Ask an Ump!

Have you seen or been involved in a play that was unusual or strange? Have you ever wondered how do I make this call? or why did the ump make that call? This page isn't just for umpires. Coaches, parents, and players are encouraged to ask questions to our Umpire-in-Chief too!
