Pickering Red Sox Team Roster

2014-05-13

Get to know your Pickering Senior Red Sox

The following players have made the transition from being a Markham Mariner to being a Pickering Red Sox.

#13 Jesse “Dyno” Dynes

Jesse was a main stay in the heart of the Mariners batting order and will continue to do so for the Red Sox.  He is coming off a season where he was a 2nd team all-star and won his third offensive player of the year award for the Mariners.  But as much as Jesse is important on the field, he is also even more important off.  His attitude and leadership is something a coach loves to have on his team.

#12 Rob “Carm” Carman

Rob is making a homecoming of sorts, the infielder finished his junior career in Pickering but joined the Mariners for the last few seasons.  The utility infielder will see time at various positions on the field and will provide some pop with the bat.

#30 Andrew “Juggernauth” Nauth

Andrew, like Rob is coming back to Pickering after spending some time in Markham.  The second basemen will provide a steady glove and a consistent bat for the Red Sox this season.

#56 Jeff “Foxy” Fox

Foxy is another veteran that was with the Mariners for many years; over the years Jeff has provided excellent defense in numerous positions on the field and has contributed with the stick in many key situations.  It is expected that will continue in a Red Sox uniform this season.

#57 Jason “Diamond” Graham

Jay “Diamond” Graham is another GTBL veteran that will provide excellent leadership for the young Red Sox roster.  Jason will be joining the Red Sox pitching staff for this upcoming season.

#7 Mike “Pudge” Rodriguez

Pudge took over as the starting catcher last season and had his best all round year during his long tenure as a Mariner.  This off season Pudge dedicated alots of time in the gym and is now in the best shape of his life and ready to tackle the season as the Red Sox main catcher.

#17 Eddy Riccardi

Eddy returns this season to the Red Sox line-up, he will see time behind the dish and will be a calming influence in the dug-out.  Eddy is a player that will do anything for the team.

#32 John “JB” Bell

Another veteran in the Red Sox line-up, John will be used primarily as the team’s DH but will see some time in the field and as a potent hitter off the bench.  Over the years John has provided some huge timely hits for the team, something that will continue in 2014.  He also may see some time on the mound.

#1 Eric “Willy” Wilton

Eric is another Red Sox returning home, Eric will patrol CF for the Sox in 2014.  He has been the defensive player of the year for the Mariners the last two seasons, his arm stops other teams running game.  Eric will also see some time on the mound in 2014.

#15 Andre “Dre” Steer

Andre has been in the GTBL for many years; he is an outstanding defensive outfielder and provides great speed on the base paths.  Andre is also very versatile and will play many different positions during the season.

#31 Christian “Chavy” Chavez

Another former Red Sox junior player coming home, Chavy will help out in the outfield and will see a lot of time on the mound for the Sox in 2014.  He is a quiet player that does his talking on the field and in the batters box.

#9 Mark “Cheese” Cheeseman

Cheese has been one of the most consistent pitchers in the OBA for many years, once again he will be called on to provide quality innings on the mound and provide leadership in the dug-out.  He is also the twin brother of Red Sox manager Steve Marshall.

#27 Steve “Hors” Horsley

Hors has been the horse of the Mariners staff for many years, something that will hopefully continue on 2014.  When Hors is on he is very tough to hit, combine that with his fierce compete level and it makes him very tough to beat.  Steve is a very vocal leader within the dug-out as well.

#44 Brad “Binnsy” Binns

Binnsy has been a very consistent pitcher for many years now; he has thrown in many big games and always wants the ball.  Binnsy is a great team guy that provides a lot of insight for the coaching staff and his teammates.

#2 Tyler “Ty” Clements

Tyler returns for his sophomore season with the Red Sox; in 2013 Tyler was the rookie of the year for the Mariners.  Tyler will be used out of the bullpen and in many different situations as he looks to build off of last year’s success.

The Pickering Red Sox Seniors are proud to welcome the following newcomers to the team for 2014:

Denis Hucal

Denis joins the Red Sox after a few years with the Martingrove White Sox where he was a mainstay in the middle of the batting order.  Denis will see time on the left side of the infield and will be counted on to provide some pop in the Red Sox order.

Ryan Turner

Ryan is returning to his roots (former Red Sox player in junior) after taking a year off.  The former Gannon University player will provide a steady glove on the left side of the infield as well as providing the batting order with some consistent pop.

Kyle Smeelen

Like Ryan, Kyle is returning to baseball after taking a year off and is a former Red Sox player returning home.  Kyle will see action behind the dish and at DH; he will also provide some pop from the left side of the plate.  He has already shown a strong work ethic that has endured him to the coaching staff.

Steve Corriea

Steve joins the Sox from the Martingrove White Sox where he has been one of the GTBL’s most consistent hitters over the years.  Look to see Steve continue to provide a steady bat and sound defense, he also may see some mound time.

Peter Riccardi

Peter makes the transition from the junior Red Sox to the seniors this year, following an excellent season with the Guelph Gryphons in the fall of 2013.  Peter was an OUA all star for his efforts.  Peter is the brother of Red Sox returning catcher Eddy, look for him to spend some time in the outfield during 2014.

Mike Drzazga

Mike is another Red Sox player joining the team from the Martingrove White Sox program.  Mike will see lots of time in the outfield where his strong arm will be an asset and his bat will be counted on to provide a steady power source for the Red Sox line-up.
Peter Nash

Peter is another graduating junior player joining the seniors this season.  Peter will see lots of action on the mound this season and sometime in the field.  The current U of T player will be counted on to provide some quality innings for the Sox in 2014.

Patrick “Ginger” Veccherelli

Patrick is another former Martingrove White Sox player that is joining the Red Sox for 2014.  Over the last few years Patrick has been a work horse for the White Sox and won many big games for them.  The same will be expected out of Patrick now that he is wearing some Red Sox.

The gentlemen leading the Red Sox this year are:

Steve Marshall

This will be Steve first year wearing a new uniform, as he has been involved with the Markham organization for 20 plus years.  First as a player and then as a coach when he took over the team in 2009.  Steve is a very competitive person that always looks for ways to improve the team.  He has worked countless hours to ensure that the first year in Pickering goes off without a hitch.

Doug Wilton

Doug is coming home this year, the former coach of the Pickering juniors that won the Ontario elimination tournament in 2010.  Doug has been heavily involved in the PBA for many years and was a big asset when the Mariners decided to move to Pickering in 2014.  Doug is a quiet person but is always ready to throw in his two cents with his quick wit.

Damon Draper

This is also a homecoming for Damon as well as he was a former Red Sox player many, many years ago.  Damon has been coaching since 2009 with Steve Marshall, and looks forward to wearing the Red Sox uniform in 2014. His insight and knowledge on the offensive side of the game is a very valuable asset to the coaching staff.

So there are your 2014 Red Sox barring any roster changes in the future.
