Select Program

Director of Select:  Michelle Montgomery   (select@pickeringbaseball.ca)

As a member of the EOSBA (Eastern Ontario Select Baseball Association), the Pickering Baseball Association offers a Select program that is committed to further developing its House League player's/team's/coaching skills in a fun and competitive environment.

General Information

Players interested in trying out for a Select team must be registered for the upcoming season. Tryouts are held in the fall after the Rep teams have been selected.  There is a one-time $25.00 tryout fee which can be paid online if desired.  If players have tried out for a Rep team and have already paid the $25.00 tryout fee they do not have to pay it again (simply let the coach in charge know).  For more information please email the Director of Select or watch the website for added details!

Who Can Tryout?

All House League players registered with the Pickering Baseball Association for the upcoming season are welcome to try out for their respective Select team (Example: If you will be playing Rookie in House League, you can try out for the Rookie Select team).

NOTE:  Select level play was established to enhance the House League program and thus, Select players are required to attend at least 75% of House League games or they will not be allowed to play in the Select division.

Out of Area Players

Out of area players are welcome to play on PBA Select teams provided they meet and fulfill the same registration, payment and House League play requirements as local players.

Training

Indoor Select training starts in the fall and continues throughout the winter using a combination of local gymnasiums and professional training facilities.  Weather-pending, on-diamond training runs from May to season conclusion which is usually early to mid-August.

Tournaments

Included with your Select fee is the cost for each team to register in one tournament (hotel and travel costs, if any, are extra); teams may sign up for other tournaments, and/or qualify/attend the provincial tournament at the end of the season.  Most tournaments run from a Friday evening to Sunday afternoon. It is up to coaches and parents to decide how many tournaments they plan to attend.

When and Where of League Play

Select season play generally begins first week of June, with the possibility of exhibition games scheduled in May.  Games are played mainly on weekends and may consist of either a single game or a double-header.  Teams will play approximately 5 home games and 5 away games in their regular season with championship games held in early to mid-August. Exhibition games are in addition to the regular season.

Our official Loop is within the Eastern Ontario Select Baseball Association (EOSBA) and includes the following Associations: Ajax, Oshawa, Courtice, Clarington, Peterborough, Prince Edward County and Kingston.

Cost

In addition to PBA House League fees, there is an additional charge for players on a Select team. This includes the cost of Select League games, one mid-season tournament, umpires, team equipment, pictures, EOSBA play-down tournament and trophies. Additional tournaments, uniforms and personal equipment are over and above the fees listed here and can vary from team to team.

**All players registered to play in the PBA for the upcoming season are eligible to try out in their age division.
