Rainouts & Extreme Weather
RAINOUT & WEATHER POLICY
If any or all fields are closed due to field conditions or inclement weather, a tweet will be sent using the PBA Twitter account by 5:30pm (or no later than 7:30pm for 8:45 games.)
A notice will automatically appear on our website homepage in the left column.
NOTE 1: If it starts to rain after 5:30, it is up to the ump to call the game depending on how hard it is raining.
NOTE 2: If there is a short but heavy rainfall after 4:30 and it stops before 5:30, because the PBA does not have the resources available to drive around to all 16 fields to determine the condition of each field at such short notice, it will be left up to the umps and coaches to determine if the field is playable.
NOTE 3: Often the decision on whether or not to close the fields is dictated to us by the City of Pickering. If the City shuts the fields down (regardless of how light the rain appears or even if it stops by game-time) – then the PBA must comply or risk losing our permit.
All that being said, if nothing is tweeted to our website by 5:30 then GAME ON!

HEAT WAVE
It hasn't been in the PBA's policy to call games due to heat - perhaps the weather in the past hasn't warranted us to consider this necessary yet :) plus everyone responds differently to the heat. We do suggest everyone is prepared by ensuring their child(ren) are drinking lots of water. Hats (which everyone should be wearing their BB hat) & sunscreen is kept on and
provide some shade when they are off the field (a shady tree if possible, if not, bring a large beach umbrella or spread an awning over the bench).
Although parents, coaches and umps will watch the kids to judge and ensure they are holding up okay (it takes a village). It is essentially up to parents to know their own children. So if at any time, you as a parent feel your child(ren) is in danger, then discuss with your coach immediately, who will then discuss with ump and other coach to pull the child(ren) who are in danger out of the game due to excessive heat.
